Oom Yung Doe will host a nationwide virtual tournament on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Tournament participants will record a video of their tournament entry forms. Videos must be submitted to Oom Yung Doe by May 11, 2024.
A Traditional Martial Arts (TMA) Tournament is an event featuring demonstrations of practitioner skill and ability. Participants are judged against the centuries-proven standards of proper traditional martial arts development.
A medal in a TMA Tournament is earned through proper execution of high-level (form, Chung Dan Hyung, Chung Joong Hyung, or Chang Hyung) TMA techniques, not by being more proficient than a fellow participant. This means that it is possible for two participants to earn Gold Medals in a single event. It also means that it is possible for no Gold Medals to be awarded if no practitioner meets the requisite standards.
The goal of a tournament, therefore, is not victory over others. The goal is to “win over yourself.” This means reaching your fullest potential through mental, physical, and spiritual development — achieving success. This success directly affects every aspect of your life. You learn to alleviate daily stress and gain the strength to overcome negativity or bad habits. Your confidence increases, communication and relationships with others are more balanced, and your mental and physical health improves. This development leads to increased inner peace.
It is an honor to receive an award or a medal. But most important is that a tournament provides a challenge to improve. Tournament preparation practice of high-level form and movement culminates in a stronger mind and body — a better you. With this strength, you are better equipped for the challenges of life.
SCENES from a prior VIRTUAL TOURNAMENT
“Challenge life. Do not wait for life to challenge you.”
- Your greatest adversary is you. Your biggest competitor is you. Winning over yourself is success.
- Your biggest accomplishment is to reach your fullest potential – this comes from fully and properly challenging yourself through the proven training methods of Traditional Moo Doe. Those who only challenge themselves to be better than someone else limit their ability to reach their fullest potential.
